in NO comands ever use brackets
How do I register my nick?
First let me explain what it means to register your nick. Atrum.org runs a service called NickServ. When you register your nick, you tell NickServ to keep your nick for you and disallow anyone trying to use your nick.
it's highly recommended you register your nick before someone else does. If someone registers your nick before you, there's no way of proving you as the original owner. So do it today!
A password is prefrably not to be less than 5 letters or characters - before you even think of registering your nickname - you need to have decided what your pswd will be.
place your CORRECT email address - if you lose your pswd - this info is used to make sure it is you - aswell as the Autho code is sent to this email address - kindly check on certain emails - this mail is seen as spam - so check your spam box
Do NOT use any brackets in commands
While connected type:
/msg nickserv register <password> <email>
This should immediately register your nick with whatever password you stipulated for <password> as well as store whatever email address you stipulated for <email>. Please note that the e-mail address you give will NOT be advertised to anyone in any way (unless you specifically ask NickServ to make it public after registering your nick).
Example:
/msg nickserv register t0psecret pets@gmail.com [ often when the auth code is sent by mail - to hotmail / gmail accounts its placed in the spam box - so check
the instant the above command is typed - if you typed /nickserv info Nickname - you will see email confirmation waiting
wait for the auth code to be e-mailed to the e-mail address u set then type /msg nickserv confirm <the code in the e-mail u received
Once registered, keep your password safe. If anyone can get your password, anyone can use your nick.
What's the point in even registering then? Use a secure password and definately not the one shown in the above example! Once you've registered your nickname, you must identify for it each and everytime you connect. Failing to do so will make NickServ think you're not using it, and will drop it after 40 days. Please read the next question about identifying.
/nickserv identify PSWD <<< replace with your password
There are various methods of Identifying your self to the Server It is good to know them all
If you are on normal Mirc - In order to set this in your PERFORM - do the following : Go to Options under Connect [ top left corner of your mirc 2nd icon ] OPTIONS again on that TAB you will see PERFORM a white block will appear - place in there /msg Nickserv identify password <<< your own Click OK to save
In order to set this on ALIAS - Go to TOOLS then SCRIPTS EDITOR the /a icon then ALIASES make some space on this page - remove nothing .. only ADD - and the spacing is Extremely important
/F12 /nickserv identify password <<<< replace password
with your own Click OK to save
If you now press F12 on your KB - you will find yourself identified
Now you may ask - why do i place identify in perform and in alias ?? simple answer when you enter the server .. PERFORM will identify you immediately - however if you change your nicks several times in a channel - you have to identify and because you are not leaving the server PERFORM cant identify for you - in that case simply Click /F12 and be identified
set kill and secure on your nickname - this will ensure that no one is able to use your nick when you not connected - even if you have registered - this can happen !!
Let me explain what this is first. If nick kill protection is enabled and someone else tries to use your nick, they will be automatically disconnected from atrum.org after 60 seconds unless they know your nick password. This means, when you connect using your nick, you have to identify with nickserv to prevent yourself from being automatically disconnected. Here's how to enable it:
/msg nickserv set kill on
also do
/msg nickserv set secure on
what does /nickserv set kill on do ?? after you have registered your nick type this regardless !! It Turns on automatic kill protection for your nick - anyone using youre nick has 60 seconds to identify or be killed by services.
what does /nickserv set secure on mean ??? It turns the security features on your nick - With Secure set ,you must enter your pswd before you will be recognised as the owner of the nick-regardless of if your address is on the access list. However if you are on the Access list - Services wil not auto kill U - regardless of the setting.
