/msg John hi are you there ?
This will send a message to John - and open a new chat window on HIS side - the minute he answers - a window will open on your side aswell This is in particular useful if you need to chat to John, and he is NOT in the same channel you are in and you cannot just * double click * his nick to open a priv window

Probably the best thing that ever happenend to IRC .. is the TAB button .. You notice this nickname walking in with about 9 characters and a real wierd spelling - all you need to do .. is type the First letter of the nickname - and press TAB - the nickname will automaticaly appear in your view - if there is more than one nickname with the same letter - all you have to do - is keep hitting TAB until the correct nickname appear
[ this does NOT work on JAVA ]
If you are in a few channels - and you wish to NOT quit the server - but just not be in that channel anylonger in order to leave the particular channel just type
/part
We often makes jokes on when a GUEST appears in the channel - and we scramble to get the GUEST ROOM sorted. However while we would be joking about it - many go into a panic when this happens ...
Actually NO need to worry - go about it calmly to fix this
Basicly all thats happenend - is that you have entered and did not identify to the server with your password - alternatively you have changed your nick name - again not identifying to the server with your password
All the SERVER is doing is HOLDING your nick safe * lets call it * so the minute you have identified with the server - you can get your nickname back to what it should be !! there are many commands that will fix this situation .. i still prefer this one - and for that reason passing it on.
How do i place someone on NOTIFY ?? well its pretty simple - and lets do that ... on Mirc 6.12 - you would simply type ALT + B this will take you directly to your NOTIFY list Here you can ADD or DELETE users to your Notify list - aswell as add music to their nickname if you so wish [ via the EDIT button ] On the Options tab in the same window - you can set where you would like the message to pop up .. its obviously far better to tick * show in active window *
